Is American Diggers Hurting Metal Detecting?

Spike TV recently released a new series called American Diggers.  The show features competitive relic and treasure hunting with typical reality TV flare.  Ric Savage heads up American Savage, an artifact recovery company that hunts private lands for possible valuables.  It has been interesting to hear the banter on various metal detecting forums.

Most folks I seem to read think that this show does hurt the hobby.  I’m not sure.

What do you think?
